Featured Funding OpportunitiesFiscal Year 2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program The primary goal of AFG is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations. This funding is for critically needed resources to equip and train emergency personnel. The 2024 AFG application period opened on Tuesday, November 12th, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. EST and closes Friday, December 20th, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. EST.My office will be hosting a virtual AFG workshop on Wednesday, December 4th at 6:00 p.m. If you are interested in attending, please register here!Additionally, the 2024 AFG Application Development Training Series is now available to view on YouTube. There will be no FEMA led live application development webinar events for the 2024 AFG. Instead, there is a playlist of seven videos hosted on YouTube that cover the spectrum of AFG subjects. The FEMA AFG team will be hosting live Q&A sessions at various times throughout the application period. The schedule for the Q&A sessions can be found here.Become a Community Science Partner with the Center for Collaborative Heat MonitoringThe Center for Collaborative Heat Monitoring opened applications for communities across the U.S. to monitor and evaluate factors influencing local heat risk, as part of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda. Funded through the Inflation Reduction Act, selected communities will receive $10,000 and technical support to collect heat distribution data through community-led campaigns. The application window for this opportunity is open now and closes on January 17, 2025, at 11:59 PM ET. In support of President Biden’s Justice40 Initiative, the center will prioritize applications from communities that have experienced historical patterns of discrimination, underinvestment and disenfranchisement and have limited resources to conduct heat monitoring on their own. Rural communities, tribal nations, U.S. territories and communities that have not previously undergone heat mapping are especially encouraged to apply.National Endowment for the Humanities: Sustaining Cultural Heritage CollectionsThis program helps cultural institutions meet the complex challenge of preserving large and diverse holdings of humanities materials for future generations by supporting environmentally sustainable preventive care measures that mitigate deterioration, prolong the useful life of collections, reduce energy consumption, and strengthen institutions’ ability to anticipate and respond to disasters.Register for Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections Webinar here. Low-income New Yorkers can apply for heating and cooling assistance under the Home Energy Assistance Program, or HEAP. Weatherization Assistance ProgramThe NYS Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is the largest residential energy conservation program in the country. NYS WAP assists income-eligible homeowners and some renters in our state by reducing heating and cooling costs through energy-conservation measures, while also addressing health and safety issues in their homes.Households with incomes at or below 60% of state median income are eligible for assistance. If a household contains a member who receives Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) benefits or certain other forms of public assistance, the household is automatically eligible for NYS WAP services. Applications are accepted from renters, homeowners, and rental property owners.
