Featured Funding OpportunitiesFEMA’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP)Through FEMA’s NSGP, nonprofit organizations can receive funding for security enhancements, like security cameras, additional warning and alert systems, gates and lighting, access control systems and training programs for staff. Last week, FEMA published the FY 2026 NSGP funding opportunity, making $300 million in NSGP funding available to nonprofit organizations across the country.To apply for NSGP funding, nonprofit organizations must submit an application to their State Administrative Agency. In New York, this is the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES). Eligible nonprofit organizations include houses of worship, educational facilities, medical facilities, senior centers/care facilities, community/social services, shelters/crisis centers, event venues, science organizations, camps, and museums. DHSES will announce when applications are due in the coming weeks.New York Providing Local Access to Essential Sustenance (NY PLATES) Capital Grant ProgramLast week, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that funding is available from the new $10 million NY PLATES Capital Grant Program. This funding will support food banks and other organizations that provide emergency food assistance in building the modern facilities, equipment, and infrastructure needed to serve more families across the state.The application period for the NY PLATES capital grant program will open on July 8, 2026, and applications must be submitted by August 20, 2026. Awards are expected to be announced no earlier than October 20, 2026.National Park Service: Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP) ProgramThe ORLP Program supports the creation and improvement of local parks and outdoor recreation spaces in qualifying urban areas of 25,000+ residents or in areas administered by Federally recognized Tribes. ORLP funds: Land acquisition, New Park development; and Renovation of existing outdoor recreation facilities. Awards range from $300,000 to $15 million.Applications are due to NPS each year by November 1 at 11:59 PM ET.The Trust for Public Land is working in partnership with the NPS to launch a new, no cost ORLP Technical Assistance Program. In 2026, TPL will provide potential applicants with:ORLP application support webinar seriesOne-on-one ORLP applicant supportSelf-serve resources for ORLP applicantsOffice of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) Fiscal Year 2026 Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs)The released NOFOs include the COPS Hiring Program (CHP) and several other grant programs that:Support the hiring and retention of sworn law enforcement officers, Keep school students safe, Promote the health and safety of our nation’s law enforcement personnel, Keep communities safe by providing active shooter trainingApplications are due starting Thursday, July 23, 2026. HFFI Food Access and Retail Expansion Fund (HFFI FARE Fund)The HFFI FARE Fund is a program under America’s Healthy Food Financing Initiative, a program of USDA Rural Development. The HFFI FARE Fund will fund projects that create or expand the following types of business models:SNAP Authorized food retailers located in eligible underserved areas that will sell an assortment of Staple and Perishable foods directly to consumersPost-harvest food retail supply chain enterprises that will distribute Staple and Perishable foods to SNAP authorized food retailers located in eligible underserved areasFunding Levels:Grants from $20,000 – $250,000 for planning and implementation projectsTechnical Assistance up to $75,000 per project for early-stage planning, predevelopment, and business assistance contractual soft costsFunding Inquiries are due no later than 11:59 PM ET, July 31, 2026.If invited to submit, full applications are due no later than 11:59 PM ET, October 30, 2026. Award notifications will be made no earlier than January 2027.NYS DEC’s Urban and Community Forestry (UCF) Grant Program$10 million in funding is now available through Round 17 of DEC’s UCF Grant Program. Of the $10 million dollars available for this round of grants, $3 million is set aside for communities with populations of 65,000 or less. Maximum grant awards are limited to $2.5 million and minimum awards are $50,000. Applications are due 2 p.m. on Wednesday August 12, 2026. Featured Funding Opportunities - FEMA’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP)
