All 10 of the Community Projects I Fought for have been Funded in our Federal Budget! March 26, 2022Dear Friends,This week, I was joined by community and local leaders to celebrate the culmination of a year-long effort to deliver vital funding for our region and all who call it home. The process to fund these community projects began when the House Committee on Appropriations Chairwoman Rosa DeLauro announced that members would be eligible to request funding for up to 10 Community Projects to be included in the federal budget. From the dozens of incredible Capital Region projects that applied to receive this funding—my team and I set out to select the 10 shovel-ready and shovel-worthy projects that would make the most significant impact for our communities.Last spring, I visited each of these projects to learn more about how they address the needs of our district, and that firsthand knowledge I gained was instrumental in my push in Washington to fund these projects. This week, I toured each county to meet with project leaders once again—this time to herald the inclusion of all 10 of my projects in the FY2022 federal budget.Below is a list of the 10 projects I successfully fought to fund:Saratoga CountyOn Monday, I was joined by local officials and community members to celebrate the delivery of $800,000 to the City of Mechanicville for their water reliability project that will replace miles of outdated pipelines and deliver clean water to thousands of residents and businesses within Mechanicville as well as the towns of Stillwater, Schaghticoke and Halfmoon.Montgomery CountyNext I celebrated the funding of two projects totaling $5 million for the City of Amsterdam to construct a community center and further develop the downtown waterfront to connect residents and bolster local businesses.Albany CountyAlbany county hosts four incredible projects that totaled more than $6 million in funding for our Capital Region. These worthy projects include:$3,000,000 in funding to implement floating solar panels in the Cohoes Reservoir, a project that would generate 100% of municipal facilities’ energy demand and serve as a clean energy model for communities across the nation.$1,687,500 to the Town of Westerlo to support extensions of broadband internet routes along public roads and connections to hundreds of underserved households.$1,000,000 to the University at Albany for the purchase of equipment that can help researchers better understand and track new COVID-19 variants as well as genetic changes in other diseases including Myotonic dystrophy and Alzheimer’s disease.$500,000 for the Albany County Sheriff’s Homeless Improvement Program (SHIP) to increase capacity to house residents in need of housing, jobs, mental health services, medical services, and substance abuse counseling.Schenectady CountyOn Thursday, I travelled to Schenectady to highlight two projects, one that would fund needed improvements for the Rotterdam Wastewater Treatment Plant and another to support the expansion of the Hometown Health Center Dental Clinic to enable it to continue to serve our region with affordable, quality care and support its huge influx of patients since the closing of Ellis Medicine’s dental care center.Rensselaer CountyYesterday, I joined friends at Capital Roots to cheer $750,000 delivered to support the construction of their Urban Grow Center, which will address food insecurity, support our local farmers and drive community revitalization by boosting access to affordable, fresh food. Our district is a remarkable, special place. We are home to cutting edge innovation and research, advanced manufacturing, world-class institutions of higher learning and health care, and countess amazing and diverse businesses, restaurants and community facilities that add vibrancy to our lives. I am incredibly proud to have succeeded in bringing needed dollars to our region for these projects that will make our Capital Region an even better, brighter place for all.As we celebrate this victory for our region, my work to deliver for our communities is far from over. These projects build upon a bold economic vision for our district, and I will continue fighting to ensure our Capital Region continues to receive the federal support it needs to boost our health, competitiveness, and prosperity for generations to come.
