Featured Funding Opportunities and Grant Assistance:

The White House launched a new mapping tool on August 26 showcasing the Obama Administration’s community-based initiatives and grant programs focused on building community assets across issues. The open-source map, developed with input from HUD, displays programs from over 15 federal agencies, including HUD’s Regional Planning and Community Challenge grants, Choice Neighborhoods, Strong Cities Strong Communities, and DOT TIGER grants, helping communities leverage federal funding to realize local visions. The Administration is also eager to capture the personal impacts of this place-based work, and has set up a web portal for the public to weigh in on how these federal programs are affecting their community.

 

EPA has recently released a new tool, theSmart Growth Self-Assessment for Rural Communities. This self-assessment tool enables rural communities to evaluate their existing policies, programs, and regulations to helps them identify effective strategies for meeting local economic, social, and environmental goals.

 

Section 504 loans and grants are available to very low income homeowners in rural areas to repair their single family homes.Loan funds may be used to make general repairs and improvements, or remodel dwellings to make them accessible for individuals with disabilities.  For very-low income homeowners 62 years old and older who cannot afford a loan to make necessary repairs, grant funds are available.  Grants may be used to remove health or safety hazards, or to remodel dwellings to make them accessible to household members with disabilities.  For information contact: USDA Rural Development, 2530 State Route 40, Greenwich NY 12834.  Phone: (518) 692-9940 ext.4, TDD (315)477-6447.
