Tonko Joins Father & Son from District to Highlight Inflation Reduction Act Wins

Eric Romero Sr. & Jr.travel from Schenectady to DC to discuss how law supports their work driving a clean energy transition

  • Rep. Paul Tonko

WASHINGTON, D.C. — House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) co-chair Paul D. Tonko (NY-20) joined a SEEC roundtable today to highlight the investments of the Inflation Reduction Act and how it is driving exponential growth in our clean energy workforce.

During the roundtable, Tonko spoke with two of the attendees, Eric Romero Sr. and Eric Romero Jr., residents of Schenectady, NY and union members of the IUE-CWA Local 301. The two, along with the other panelists from today’s roundtable, highlighted how the Inflation Reduction Act influenced job growth in their communities and the economic benefits of growing out the middle class with the clean economy.

“Often I have spoken about the significant benefits delivered to our workers and communities through investments in the Inflation Reduction Act,” Congressman Tonko said. “The clean energy workers and manufacturers who shared their stories and insights with us at today’s roundtable showed firsthand the real-world, human impacts of this transformation law. I pushed to advance the Inflation Reduction Act because I believe in doing all we can at the federal level to support hardworking, union workers as they work on the frontlines to drive our clean energy transition. I’m grateful to the Romero’s and all our panelists for sharing their stories. Bolstered by their insights, I am more dedicated than ever to securing a clean energy future that supports our environment, our communities, and our workers.”

Tonko first met the father and son during a roundtable event in August with U.S. Trade Representative, Ambassador Katherine Tai that highlighted how Biden’s Investing in America agenda is lifting up domestic manufacturers and workers, focusing on advanced and clean energy manufacturing and union jobs in the Capital Region.
