As of Wednesday January 29, the Trump Administration has rescinded their order calling for a freeze to all federal funding. I'm grateful to those who shared their insights with me, and to the countless constituents, organizations, and advocates who joined me in expressing their opposition to this unlawful, cruel order. We must continue to use our voices to stand up for our communities and speak truth to power.

As you may know, the Trump Administration recently ordered a sweeping pause of all federal grants, loans, and other assistance. This action potentially impacts hundreds of billions of dollars in federal assistance — from Medicaid, to childhood learning programs, to Veterans assistance, to small business loans, and so much more.

Here’s what we know so far based on the White House announcement:

• The pause was set to take effect on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 5:00pm. HOWEVER, a federal judge that same evening temporarily blocked the pause until Monday, February 3rd.
• This freeze will be in place until the Trump Administration reviews all federal funding to ensure they are aligned with the president's priorities.
• Agencies are requested to submit to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) detailed information on any programs and projects subject to that federal pause by no later than Monday, February 10.
• The pause does not apply to Social Security and Medicare payments or financial assistance provided directly to individuals (which means Federal Pell grants and direct student loans are are not included in this pause).
• OMB could grant other exceptions on a “case-by-case basis.”
