Alzheimer's

Congressman Tonko has long been a leader in the national fight against Alzheimer’s disease and a champion of efforts to support individuals living with Alzheimer’s and their loved ones. Recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association’s Alzheimer’s Impact Movement (AIM) in 2022 as Humanitarian of the Year, Tonko has authored and successfully advanced numerous bills in support of the movement to end Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s Accountability Act

A bill to support research and development of a cure for Alzheimer’s by requiring the National Institutes of Health to submit an annual research budget proposal to Congress and the President that specifies the resources needed to fully implement a National Alzheimer’s Plan. The bill allows scientists to present a complete and undistorted view of what they believe is needed each year to support the fight against Alzheimer’s, allowing Congress to make well-informed funding decisions.

HOPE for Alzheimer's Act

A bill to expand Medicare coverage for certain testing involving Alzheimer’s and provide coverage for care planning services to both Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers after an Alzheimer’s diagnosis. The bill aids in the continued development of a National Plan to Address Alzheimer's disease.

BOLD Infrastructure for Alzheimer's Act

A bill to expand federal support and funding for state and local programs that enhance the detection, treatment, and public awareness of Alzheimer's and related dementias.

Improving HOPE for Alzheimer's Act

A bill to require the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to inform healthcare providers about care planning benefits available through Medicare for Alzheimer's patients. The bill would also require HHS to identify other barriers individuals face in accessing Alzheimer’s care planning.
