Congressman Tonko’s priority is the well-being and safety of his constituents. He has consistently worked to pass consumer protection legislation that has bolstered integrity and security in many policy areas, from sponsoring anti-doping legislation to securing our radio airwaves. The Congressman has worked to keep commerce incorruptible and inviolable in our district and in the United States at large.  


United States Anti-Doping Agency Reauthorization Act

A bill to ensure that the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) had funding to continue testing American Olympians for performance enhancing drugs. The bill provided funding to the Agency through the year 2020 to conduct research on performance enhancing drugs and educate young athletes about the dangers of taking these drugs.

Commonsense Contractor Compensation Act of 2013

A bill to stop salary compensation to government contractors that exceeds the salary of the top level of executive employees, including cabinet secretaries. This bill ensures that government contractors are not paid more than a cabinet secretary’s annual salary.

BOTS Act

A bill to ban the use and sale of software that is made to buy tickets in mass amounts, along with the resale of tickets obtained with such software. This legislation also gives those affected by illegal ticketing software the right to pursue a lawsuit and gives the Federal Trade Commission the authority to enforce this bill.

Renaming STOCK Act after Louise Slaughter

A bill to rename the STOCK Act after the late Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, a fierce advocate of integrity in the House of Representatives. The STOCK Act restricted congressional members and staff from profiting from non-public information they learned through their work in Congress.

Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act of 2020

A bill to create the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority to bring nationwide standards regarding anti-doping practices, medication usage, and safety to the sport of horseracing. This legislation also gives the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) oversight responsibilities over any rule changes proposed by the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority.

Preventing Illegal Radio Abuse Through Enforcement (PIRATE) Act

A bill to protect our public airwaves and emergency alert systems by increasing fines on criminals that interrupt and illegally broadcast transmissions.

Manufacturing.gov Act

A bill to require the Department of Commerce to establish a section of the manufacturing.gov website to serve as the primary hub for information relating to federal manufacturing programs. This legislation will help manufacturers of all sizes get easier access to information about key federal programs.
