Congressman Paul Tonko toured the Green Island facility of specialty metal fabricator Arcadia Manufacturing Group today, thanking company officials and workers for helping support one of their core clients – troops who have been fighting overseas. Arcadia, a contract manufacturer which boasts some of the most advanced and comprehensive metal cutting equipment in the nation, makes armor plating for military Humvees and mechanized troop carriers that helps protect troops. Congressman Tonko was joined on the tour by Albany County Executive Michael Breslin, Green Island Mayor Ellen McNulty-Ryan and Cohoes Mayor John McDonald.
“Arcadia is a great example of a small, family run business that is doing the kind of advanced manufacturing work that supports other businesses, helps our local economy, and supplies good paying jobs,” said Congressman Tonko. “I’m especially proud of the contribution they make to support our troops, and keep them safe. Its companies like Arcadia that will provide a solid base for our economic recovery.”
Bill Sumner, President and CEO of Arcadia Manufacturing Group, said: “We are appreciative of Congressman Tonko’s efforts to support small business. Arcadia Manufacturing Group is a family-owned, second generation $16 million business employing over 50 people. Arcadia is a contract Manufacturer in the Energy, Rail and Medical Industries…but we are most proud of the work and support we supply to the U.S. Military. Although our contribution is small in the grand scheme of things, creating armored items that protect our troops, like Humvees…is humbling.”
Albany County Executive Mike Breslin said, “Arcadia is truly a local family and community success story. Father and son Jim and Bill Sumner continue to expand the company to meet our economy’s changing needs, evolving from a metal supply company to a modern fabrication plant. Arcadia has grown from 20 employees to nearly 60 over the last decade and has invested millions of dollars in our community. We must continue to support local companies like Arcadia so they can continue to thrive and create new jobs.”
Arcadia was founded in 1969, and employs 59 people at its facility at 80 Cohoes Avenue in Green Island. The company has an array of advanced water jet and laser metal cutting equipment for both small and large projects.
