Congressman Paul Tonko will host a community meeting with Congresswoman Corrine Brown (FL-3) Saturday, April 17th at the CDTA Rensselaer Rail Station starting at 830 a.m. Congresswoman Brown, who is Chairwoman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, will be kicking off a “Whistle Stop Tour” of upstate New York to call attention to Recovery Act funding for High Speed Rail.
New York’s 21st Congressional District received $91 million of New York’s $151 million in Recovery Act High Speed Rail funding for construction of a second rail line between Albany and Schenectady, a crucial bottleneck for rail passenger service in New York State.
Congresswoman Brown has been a member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure since being elected to Congress in 1992. She was chosen to chair the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials in 2007, which has jurisdiction over the passenger and freight rail industry. The Subcommittee’s priorities for this session of Congress include funding rail infrastructure improvements nationwide and development of High Speed Rail.
Following the meeting, Congresswoman Brown will be met at the CDTA Rensselaer Train Station by Rep. Michael Arcuri (NY-24) and they will board an Amtrak train bound for a Listening Session at Utica’s Union Station.
