Congressman Paul Tonko will host a reception to showcase artwork from high school students in the 21st Congressional District who submitted entries for the annual Congressional Art Competition. The reception will be held Monday, May 17th from 530p to 7p at the Arts Center of the Capital Region, 265 River Street in Troy.
All of the artwork submitted by local students will be displayed at the reception, and the winner of the competition will be announced. The winning artwork will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., along with the winning entries from each congressional district in the nation. The winner will also receive free travel to The Capitol to participate in an unveiling ceremony.
The Congressional Art Competition started in 1982 as an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. More than 650,000 high school students have participated in the nationwide competition.
