TONKO TO HOST CONFERENCE ON WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT AT RPI WEDNESDAY

Congressman Paul Tonko will host his second annual Mighty Waters conference on Wednesday, June 8, from 9:00am to 4:30pm at RPI in Troy.The conference will bring together stakeholders from throughout the community, including local business owners, developers, planners, college students and the general public to discuss regional efforts to promote sustainable development, environmental preservation, and utilize findings and recommendations of Congressman Tonko's Mighty Waters Task Force as a tool for economic development.

Congressman Paul Tonko will host his second annual Mighty Waters conference on Wednesday, June 8, from 9:00am to 4:30pm at RPI in Troy.The conference will bring together stakeholders from throughout the community, including local business owners, developers, planners, college students and the general public to discuss regional efforts to promote sustainable development, environmental preservation, and utilize findings and recommendations of Congressman Tonko’s Mighty Waters Task Force as a tool for economic development. 

The conference kick-off meeting will be held at RPI’s EMPAC Theatre at 9am while the remainder of the conference will move to the Darrin Communications Center on the RPI campus.

New York Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy will deliver the keynote address at 1pm in room 308 of the Darrin Communications Center.  Parking for press is available in the parking garage on College Avenue.  Darrin Communications Center is a short walk across campus from EMPAC.

Throughout the day, guests and attendees will have an opportunity to attend a number of panel discussions with presentations and remarks from: Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, President of RPI; Congressman Maurice Hinchey; Dr. Stephen Ainlay, President of Union College; Commissioner Darryl Towns, NYS Homes and Community Renewal; George Stafford, Deputy Secretary of State; John Cronin, Director and CEO of the Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries; Hon. John McDonald, Mayor of Cohoes; Roland Lewis, President and CEO of the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance; and F. Michael Tucker, President of the Center for Economic Growth among others. 

Here are the highlights of the day’s events:

  • 9:00am: Welcoming address by Congressman Tonko, RPI President Shirley Ann Jackson (at EMPAC Theater)
  • 1:00pm: Keynote Address by Lt. Governor Robert Duffy (Darrin Communications Center, room 308) – media availability with Lt. Gov. Duffy & Congressman Tonko to follow
  • 3:30p: Afternoon Plenary Session with Congressman Maurice Hinchey and moderators from the day’s panels to discuss ideas, roadblocks, and solutions.
