This afternoon, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressmen Tonko will join State Senator Roy McDonald, County Executive Kathy Jimino and Mayor Harry Tutunjian, county officials and first responders to tour areas affected by the recent Hurricane Irene. These areas include the mudslide site on Brunswick Road and the Poestenkill Creek Dam and briefing of conditions in the Capital Region. Press can join the tour, and officials will hold a press availability following their briefing.
This tour and briefing is part of Senator Gillibrand’s efforts to get the best sense of the damage to New York caused by Hurricane Irene and to bring all federal resources to bear to aid in the recovery. The officials have already been in contact with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and will be working to ensure that the Capital Region receives disaster aid. Yesterday, Senator Gillibrand did similar tours on Long Island and in Westchester County.
