Tonko Cheers $41K AmeriCorps Grant Award for Capital Region

United Way of the Greater Capital Region awarded funding to sponsor two full-time AmeriCorps VISTA members

WASHINGTON – Congressman Paul D. Tonko announced today that the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) has awarded the United Way of the Greater Capital Region $41,862 to sponsor two full-time AmeriCorps Volunteer Service to America (VISTA) members for one year.

“This grant will strengthen our United Way of the Greater Capital Region to better help low-income residents across our area.” said Tonko, “Our local United Way team works tirelessly to connect organizations and leaders with funding sources to help improve the lives of our neighbors in need. I applaud their work and their fruitful partnership with AmeriCorps VISTA, which not only takes on the challenge of eliminating poverty but today works on nearly 100 projects tackling our nation’s opioid crisis. The collaboration between these worthy organizations will help Capital Region families find greater economic stability and allow children to focus on things like schoolwork rather than their parent’s financial woes.”
