Congressman Paul Tonko released the following statement after the Department of Transportation awarded Albany International Airport a $750,000 grant from the Small Community Air Service Development program. The grant will be matched with funds raised by local chambers of commerce to help attract new air service to Albany. Congressman Tonko authored a letter of support for this grant:
“If we are going to continue the trend of attracting top-notch high technology and clean energy companies to our region, we must make certain that we have the infrastructure and services to meet the needs of those companies. This grant will help Albany International Airport bring new direct service from Albany to other major markets, enhancing our region’s connectivity to other technology driven-hubs. That connection is key as we strive to maintain Tech Valley’s status as one of the fastest growing regions for tech jobs in the country.
“I want to commend Albany International Airport, the local chambers of commerce, and the Center for Economic Growth for partnering on this initiative. Our region has proven that when the public and private sectors work together, it only strengthens our ability to compete on a national and global scale.
