Tonko Statement on Passing of Walter Robb, Pioneer of GE Technology

Dr. Walter Robb is the first confirmed victim in the Capital Region to Coronavirus

AMSTERDAM, NY—Congressman Paul D. Tonko released the following statement today on the passing of Walter Robb, local philanthropist and renowned chemical engineer at GE who shaped the careers of many entrepreneurs in the Capital Region .

“On Monday, our Capital Region lost an incredible leader, innovator and hero. Dr. Walter Robb spent his 92 years tirelessly working to improve our community. From his decades-long career working at GE developing new technologies, promoting the work of local entrepreneurs, supporting research and creating hundreds of jobs, his life and accomplishments are nothing short of astounding.  As an alumnus of Clarkson University, I greatly appreciate his dedication as a Clarkson University trustee to my Alma mater in helping to unite Clarkson and Union Graduate College.

“Not only was Dr. Robb a successful pioneer, he had an absolute love for the Capital Region and dedicated his life to making it a better place. We have lost a true giant in our region whose intelligence, generosity and spirit will live on forever. My heart goes out to Walt’s loved ones, especially his three sons and his widow, Anne, who is battling coronavirus. May his enduring legacy give all of us strength during these difficult times.”
