Congressman Paul Tonko released the following statement today after Democratic leaders on each House committee sent their deficit reduction recommendations to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction:

“I want to commend our leadership for putting together a bold set of proposals that will boost job creation and cut our deficit.  These recommendations contain a mixture of smart cuts, targeted investments, and revenue reforms that will create jobs, strengthen small business and ensure that everyone is contributing their fair share.

“I also call on the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction to conduct all meetings and discussions in open session, ensuring that the American people can have a voice in these negotiations. The American people will be watching to make certain the committee crafts a plan to responsibly balance the federal books while focusing on policies that will help small businesses and create new jobs.”
