Tonko Cheers $4.1 Million Awarded to Albany Airport

DOT award funded by the CARES Act makes travel safer & more efficient for passengers

WASHINGTON—Congressman Paul D. Tonko cheered news today that the Albany International Airport received a Department of Transportation (DOT) grant totaling $4,150,000. The award, provided through the CARES Act, funds a project replacing passenger boarding bridges to maintain the efficient movement of passengers at the airport.

“As we continue ramping up our Capital Region economy after months of waiting, delivering these investments that make our transportation systems safer, more accessible and more efficient is more crucial than ever,” Congressman Tonko said. “Albany International Airport serves a vital role in providing jobs and economic opportunity, and this funding will put our airport to work helping ensure our region can rebuild stronger, grow and thrive even amidst the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. I will continue working so that our Capital Region receives the necessary resources to make a strong economic recovery.”

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act includes $10 billion in funds to be awarded as economic relief to eligible U.S. airports affected by the prevention of, preparation for, and response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Funds are allocated to the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) and supplemental discretionary grants.
