Tonko Heralds $11K COVID-19 Assistance for Local Emergency Responders

FEMA award to Clifton Park and Halfmoon will deliver resources for pandemic response

AMSTERDAM, NY—Congressman Paul D. Tonko announced today that Clifton Park and Halfmoon Emergency Corps was awarded $11,319.75 for personal protective equipment (PPE) and other supplies through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) COVID-19 Supplemental. Tonko sent a letter of support requesting consideration of funds for the Clifton Park and Halfmoon district.

“When tragedy strikes, our emergency responders are there at a moment’s notice, ready to put their lives on the line in the service of our families and communities,” Congressman Tonko said. “This critically-needed funding will help provide PPE and other supplies to ensure our EMS workers have the tools they need to protect themselves as they fight to protect us. My most humble thanks to our emergency responders for their continued commitment and sacrifice in the face of danger. I will keep fighting for Congress to ensure they are provided the resources necessary to stay safe in the midst of this crisis. It is the least we can do for these brave men and women.”

“We are very grateful for this financial support from FEMA through the AFG COVID-19 Supplement,” said Clifton Park & Halfmoon Emergency Corps Executive Director Alan Bell. “We are also very thankful to Congressman Tonko for advocating for us to receive the funds,” Bell continued. “The amount of PPE that we used during the early months of the pandemic was unprecedented and we continue to use it at a greater rate than normal because of new operational procedures designed to protect staff and patients. This funding will help our agency recover some of what we spent already on these life-saving supplies and allow us to continue to provide premier patient care for our community.”

This is Round 6 of the competitive FY 2020 AFG-S announcements. Under the CARES Act, FEMA is providing $100 million in supplemental funding for personal protective equipment, or PPE, and related supplies to the fire service community to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
