AMSTERDAM, NY—Congressman Paul D. Tonko announced that $862,250 will be awarded to local governments and public safety non-profits in the Capital Region. The grants will be administered through the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs.
“Making smart federal investments in community safety programs can help change the course of countless lives while simultaneously lifting up the cause of justice,” Congressman Tonko said. “Whether through mental health and addiction treatment, victim-witness programs or education and training for law enforcement, these programs reflect our common purpose of making our Capital Region a better, safer place. Even as we deliver this vital funding support, I continue our long efforts alongside my colleagues in Congress to deliver the resources our communities need to ensure every American can seek justice, build a life in safety and get help when they need it.”
$619,648 is being awarded to John Finn Institute for Public Safety, Inc. to research the forms of investigative activities and evidence that contribute to prosecutions involving firearms.
$109,876 is being awarded to NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services in Albany to support local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements.
$63,358 is being awarded to the City of Albany to prevent and control crime through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program.
$24,737 is being awarded to the City of Troy to prevent and control crime through the Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Program.
$44,631 is being awarded to Schenectady County to prevent and control crime through the Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Program.
The Office of Justice Programs provides federal leadership, grants, training, technical assistance and other resources to improve the nation’s capacity to prevent and reduce crime, assist victims and enhance the rule of law by strengthening the criminal and juvenile justice systems.
