Tonko Announces $586K for New York State Police

Federal grant will fund program to fight child sexual exploitation and Internet crimes against children

AMSTERDAM, NY—Congressman Paul D. Tonko announced today that $586,371 is being awarded to the New York State Police to combat Internet crimes against children. The funding is being administered by the Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs.

“As more of our lives and livelihoods move online, we face an even greater threat we must counter from exploitation and abuse of our most vulnerable population: children,” Congressman Tonko said. “I am proud to announce this well-deserved funding that will deliver vital support to our dedicated New York State Police to respond to the crisis of technology-facilitated child abuse. Our investments in these and other pro-justice programs and initiatives will actively work to protect our children and bring predators to justice. I will continue to push for Congress to support the professionals in law enforcement and beyond who are working to ensure that the Internet is a safe place for people of all ages to learn, work and stay connected.”

Funding for this award is being administered through the National Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Program, which assists state and local law enforcement agencies in responding to child sexual exploitation and Internet crimes against children. This assistance encompasses forensic and investigative components, training and technical assistance, victim services, and community education.
