Congressman Paul Tonko released the following statement after legislation to extend the payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits passed the House this morning:

“The two-month extension of the payroll tax cut is a hard-fought victory for the hard-working middle class. Washington heard their voices loud and clear – put aside the political rancor and pass this extension, which means real money that will make a real difference for our families, and a lifeline for unemployed Americans as they continue their search for a job. Now we can complete work on extending these measures for a full year.

“I am happy that leaders from both sides of the aisle could put aside their differences and come together in the best interests of the middle class and all Americans.”
