AMSTERDAM, NY—Congressman Paul D. Tonko added his voice to the growing number of New York lawmakers in calling for Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign effective immediately. His statement is below:
“While I have previously called for an independent investigation—now underway—into serious and credible claims against Governor Cuomo, it has become clear the Governor has lost the public trust needed to effectively lead this state. I see no choice but to call for him to resign. New York continues to grapple with extraordinary loss and challenge in the face of the COVID pandemic. These distractions and a diminishing confidence in our state’s executive leadership hinder our collective efforts to overcome these challenges. For the sake of New York’s ongoing COVID recovery and the millions of New Yorkers who depend on strong, focused leadership from the state Capitol, Governor Cuomo must resign and hand the reins of state leadership to someone who can give the job their full, undivided focus.”
