Today, Congressman Paul Tonko joined with representatives from Automated Dynamics to lead local high school students and educators on a tour of Automated Dynamics facility, including the development lab, composite manufacturing and automation manufacturing portions of the business.
Automated Dynamics has manufactured advanced composite structures and high performance composite processing equipment in Schenectady since 1984. Through development of innovative processes, the company delivers strong, light-weight structures that solve complex problems for clients in the aerospace, automotive, defense, oil field, and other commercial and industrial markets. Automated Dynamics has produced tens of thousands of composite structures for clients around the world and has machines in seventeen countries.
Students on today’s tour were able to get a first-hand glimpse of how to take skills learned in robotics programs and apply them toward a career. Robotics technology is recognized as a pillar of 21st century American innovation. The field is growing in importance with a wide variety of application areas and has the ability to inspire technology education. Robotics is positioned to fuel a broad array of next-generation products in fields as diverse as manufacturing, health-care, defense, national security, agriculture and transportation.
“A sound education in the science, technology, engineering and math fields can provide a foundation for a lifetime of opportunities,” said Congressman Paul Tonko. “While America competes in a global marketplace, we continue to lag behind large parts of Europe and Asia in STEM education graduates. It is my hope that today’s tour, graciously hosted by the Automated Dynamics team, will serve as continued inspiration for Capital Region high school students to know that the sky is the limit. These students represent the future of the American Dream – a future that I believe is bright. With their skill-set, curiosity, innovation, and can-do spirit, we will continue to be the go to nation for intellect, ingenuity and invention.”
Automated Dynamics President Rob Langone, PE said, “The engineered composite structures and automated processing equipment made here, in Schenectady, are used globally as high-performance solutions to the world’s problems. Our success is a direct extension of our employees. Having a local source for candidates with the skills we need is critical to our business’s growth and continued prosperity. Interest and education in the STEM curriculum areas is an essential part of the entry qualifications.”
The third annual National Robotics Week occurred in April to educate the public about robotics technology and its societal impacts, as well as to advocate for increased funding for technology research and development. Automated Dynamics has received such support in the past; having been a recipient of three Small Business Innovation Research grant awards to take inventions and work toward turning them into marketable finished goods.
