Tonko Votes to Advance Build Back Better Budget in House

Supports major investments that strengthen the economy, create jobs & lower costs for working Americans

  • Rep. Paul Tonko

WASHINGTON—Congressman Paul D. Tonko today voted in the House to adopt the budget resolution, the Build Back Better Plan that brings critical investments to support the nation’s economic recovery, create jobs, deliver tax cuts and lower costs for working families and address climate change.

“In order to meet this moment and address the many challenges facing our nation, Congress must move forward with bold action that truly delivers for the American people and fuels our full economic recovery,” Congressman Tonko said. “Today we in the House took that urgently-needed action with a vote to pass our Build Back Better Plan. This budget works to support our kids, invest in hardworking families, create good-paying jobs and tackle the climate crisis, all by cracking down and making the wealthiest billionaires and corporations finally pay their fair share. Congress needs to ensure these priorities that strengthen our nation make it to the president’s desk without delay.”

The Build Back Better Act will deliver:

  • More Jobs: creating millions of jobs while tackling the climate crisis and ensuring that America will not only compete, but lead the way to the clean energy future.  Our historic investments in clean technologies will create 2 million jobs each year over the next decade, while reducing carbon emissions 50 percent by 2030.  Meanwhile, its transformative investments in women and families—including child care, paid leave, home-based care and universal free pre-K—will unlock the full economic potential of parents in the workforce.
  • Cut Taxes: more than 40 million American families received a tax cut through the Biden Child Tax Credit that is helping cut child poverty in half.  This package doubles down on those investments, resulting in one of the largest tax cuts for Americans ever.
  • Lower Costs: cutting costs of child care, medicine, home care and college. For the first time, seniors will be able to get the hearing aids, glasses and dental care they need through Medicare.  And families will have paid leave when they need it.
  • Wealthy & Big Corporations Pay Fair Share: ensuring that the wealthiest and big corporations pay their fair share. No one making under $400,000 will see an increase in their taxes from this bill.  Action to advance tax fairness and enforcement is widely popular with 72 percent of Americans supporting crackdowns on tax evasion by corporations and the wealthy.
