Tonko Bipartisan Manufacturing.gov Act Advances out of Committee

Bill will connect American manufacturers with federal resources & strengthen domestic supply chains

  • Rep. Paul Tonko

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Paul D. Tonko today cheered the advance of his bipartisan Manufacturing.gov Act during a legislative markup in the Committee on Energy and Commerce by a vote of 54-0. The bill would establish a one-stop hub to connect manufacturers with federal manufacturing programs.

“Supporting our domestic manufacturers will be critical in the work to lower costs for consumers, address supply chain shortages, and create good-paying American jobs,” Congressman Tonko said. “The Manufacturing.gov Act helps deliver that key support by making federal programs and resources more accessible to manufacturers in New York and across the country, giving them the tools they need to drive economic growth. I’m thankful to my colleagues in Committee for advancing this bill and urge the House to move swiftly to support our middle-class workers who drive our nation’s industry.”

Tonko introduced the Manufacturing.gov Act last year alongside Representatives Fred Upton (MI-6), and Cindy Axne (IA-03). U.S. Senators Gary Peters (D-MI), Todd Young (R-IN) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced the Senate bill, which was passed in October 2021.

This bill addresses a Government Accountability Office report that found the federal government maintains 58 different manufacturing programs across 11 federal agencies—creating unnecessary hurdles and making it more difficult for manufacturers to access these programs.
