WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Paul D. Tonko released the following statement tonight following President Biden’s State of the Union address:

Tonight, President Biden outlined for the American people the incredible progress we’ve made under his administration.  In just two years, we’ve taken action to get our economy back on track, revitalize American manufacturing, make critical investments in clean energy and infrastructure, and lower costs for working families.

Alongside President Biden, Democrats are continuing to deliver for the American people.  Our economic plan has created a record 12 million new jobs since President Biden took office, almost as many as any other President created in four years.  The national unemployment rate sits at just 3.4 percent, the lowest figure in more than half a century.  And through investments in domestic manufacturing and supply chains, clean energy technologies, critical infrastructure, and much more, we are making certain that this economy continues to work for all Americans for years to come.

Under the leadership of President Biden and Democrats in Congress, I know that we can build on these historic achievements and continue to deliver for everyday Americans.  Over the next two years, I look forward to working with the President to usher in a new era of growth and prosperity for our Capital Region and for our nation.
