U.S. Congressman Paul Tonko will join education officials and the Ballston Spa High School Robotics Team Monday at Ballston Spa High School to announce a major initiative to improve engineering education in schools. The Educating Tomorrow’s Engineers Act (ETEA) would help increase student achievement by removing barriers at the federal level that prevent schools from expanding math and science programs. Tonko will be joined by Ballston Spa Central School District Superintendent Joseph P. Dragone, as well as other school administrators. The officials will briefly discuss the legislation before Congress and take questions from the media.
“Engineering education helps all students understand the world around us and how things work,” said Congressman Tonko.“Exposing more students to engineering will prove to be a tremendous asset as we work to enhance the quality of education they receive. Our future leaders will benefit greatly from this legislation and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House of Representatives to fight for its passage into law.”
“The Educating Tomorrow’s Engineers Act will help integrate critical design and engineering skills as an important K-12 curricular component. Critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and innovation will be the driving factors of tomorrow’s workforce, and this bill will support and expand these opportunities for our students,” said Superintendent Dragone.
The ETEA was introduced in the House of Representatives last month by Tonko. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has also introduced a companion bill in the Senate.
