ALBANY, NY — Congressman Paul D. Tonko today announced the opening of this year’s process for students in New York’s 20th Congressional District to apply for nominations to one of our nation’s Service Academies. From today through the application deadline on October 27th at 5:00 PM, interested students may apply for a nomination from Congressman Tonko to attend the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

“I’m thrilled to announce the opening of this year’s academy nomination process,” Congressman Tonko said. “Each year, I have the honor of nominating a group of exceptional students from our Capital Region to serve our country by attending one of our nation’s service academies. If you or someone you know is interested in applying, I encourage you to go to my website to learn more about the process and how to apply. I’m always eager to help the young people of our Capital Region serve our communities and our nation, and I look forward to seeing this year’s talented group of applicants!”

Each member of Congress, in both the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, has the privilege of nominating a limited number of people to attend four of the five U.S. Service Academies. Applicants must be unmarried, non-pregnant U.S. citizens without legal obligation to support children or other dependents, and each applicant must be at least 17 years of age and no older than 22 years of age. Candidates for a nomination from Congressman Tonko must also reside within the boundaries of New York’s 20th Congressional District.
