WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Paul D. Tonko (NY-20) released a statement following his vote to advance a Continuing Resolution (CR) that would fund the government and avoid a painful shutdown.
“After Democrats delivered the majority of votes to keep the doors of government open through October, we have once again supplied the votes needed to avoid a GOP shutdown and the pain that it would cause to our economy, communities, and national security. Throughout these months, I have continuously called for my Republican colleagues to abandon their path of extremism and pass a budget consistent with the Bipartisan Fiscal Responsibility Act. Instead, they spent their time in chaos — fighting amongst themselves to find a Speaker and attempting to shove through draconian cuts to our healthcare system, further abortion restrictions, and attack LGBTQ+ rights. Enough is enough. Republicans must join us in fulfilling the work of the people, supporting our allies, and addressing the crises that our nation and world face. Too much is at stake to continue this chaos and dysfunction.”
