WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Congressman Paul D. Tonko (D-NY) voted in the House to advance H.R. 8035, the Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act. His full statement can be read below:

“For months, my Democratic colleagues and I have recognized the dire situation in Ukraine, and we’ve worked tirelessly to provide them with the continued assistance our allies need to keep up the defense of their homeland against Russia’s unprovoked war of aggression. Time and again, however, far-right Republicans blocked these efforts, leaving Ukraine vulnerable at a time when solidarity and support are of paramount importance, and conveying a dangerous signal to Putin and other tyrants that our nation is unwilling to honor our commitments.

“After weeks of unacceptable stalling, I’m relieved that the House has at last moved to support Ukraine in its hour of need. With the advance of this vital aid, we are sending the clear message to the world that the United States stands for freedom and democracy.”
