Today Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Henry A. Waxman and Environment and the Economy Subcommittee Ranking Member Paul Tonko sent letters to the American Chemistry Council President and Chief Executive Officer Calvin M. Dooley and Safer Chemicals Healthy Families Director Andy Igrejas seeking a document identifying areas of agreement for reforming the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).
The American Chemical Council, representing industry, and the Safer Chemicals Healthy Families coalition, representing public health groups, had engaged in mediated discussions on TSCA reform in 2011. Their areas of agreement were documented in a memorandum prepared by the Meridian Institute.

Dear Mr. Dooley and Mr. Igrejas:
It has come to our attention that in 2011, the American Chemistry Council and the Safer Chemicals Healthy Families coalition sat down in a series of mediated discussions with the Meridian Institute on the topic of reform of the Toxic Substances Control Act.
We understand that this process resulted in identifying certain areas of agreement and that the results were documented in a memorandum prepared by the Meridian Institute.
We are writing to request that you provide us with this document. The Committee has had a number of hearings on the topic of TSCA reform. Understanding where industry and public health groups were able to find areas of agreement might provide a blueprint for legislative success.
Please provide the document no later than February 10, 2014.
Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
Sincerely,
Henry A. Waxman
