Congressman Tonko will again visit the Port of Albany to receive an informal tour of the transportation processes of turbines, generators and associated power generation equipment manufactured in Schenectady and exported to other nations via the port. Later that day, Tonko will discuss climate change, the recent Climate Summit in New York City, and how the area can benefit economically from clean energy manufacturing like the turbines produced in the Capital Region.
“There are many benefits to ‘thinking outside the barrel’. When we begin to move away from our crippling dependence on fossil fuels, invest in energy efficiency models, and focus on clean energy sources like wind, solar, and hydro, we create jobs, grow the economy, enhance public health, and make the environment a better place to live for our kids and grandkids.
“We see evidence of this right here in the Capital Region as clean energy and energy efficiency products are manufactured and create an economic ripple effect that can be felt throughout the area. I look forward to seeing this firsthand at the port, then sharing my experiences and listening to ideas from those in attendance at the town hall later that day,” said Tonko.
Congressman Tonko will hold a press availability at both events. The town hall is free and open to the public.
