Congressman Paul Tonko (D-NY) will kick off a week of events to promote the local manufacturing sector Friday at Schenectady City Hall.  Additional events geared toward reshoring and boosting American manufacturing jobs will be held throughout the week until Thursday, October 9th.

If we are going to continue to heal our economy, we need to find ways to help New York manufacturers grow and create good paying, American jobs,” said Tonko. I am happy to work with Mayor McCarthy, Mike Tucker and other local leaders who work tirelessly to develop our area. As we work together, we will continue to build upon past successes and help the private sector produce sustainable employment for Capital Region residents for generations to come.”

The City of Schenectady’s Manufacturing Week was sparked as a result of the American Made Movie screening held at Proctor’s Theater in January. The Schenectady Manufacturing Week Committee, which includes a representative from Congressman Tonko’s office, began meeting on a regular basis soon after the screening. Tonko also arranged an additional screening of the film in Washington, D.C. and led a panel that included House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Capital Region small business leaders, and national manufacturing experts among others.

Manufacturing Week is designed to expand knowledge and perception of manufacturing, careers in manufacturing, and the value of manufacturing on the local economy. A full schedule of Schenectady Manufacturing Week events is listed below:
