Tonko Announces Major Funding for Port of Albany

$17.6 Million Awarded to City for Maritime Improvements

ALBANY – Congressman Paul D. Tonko (NY-20) announced today a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) in the amount of $17,629,800 for the Albany Port District Commission Project. The project will replace and upgrade an on-dock warehouse, reconstruct an outdoor cargo storage and staging area, and rebuild a port roadway, as part of a comprehensive effort to enhance the Port of Albany’s project cargo and heavy lift capabilities. The grant was made possible through the USDOT TIGER VIII Discretionary Grant Program.

Repairing and rebuilding our aging infrastructure doesn’t stop at fixing our roads and bridges. We must also work on upgrading our pipes and ports. I thank the tireless efforts from Rich Hendrick, Megan Daly and their team at the Port of Albany to secure this grant, and I look forward to working with them to protect and boost funding from the Department of Transportation that is so critical today as we continue to work with infrastructure that is more than a century old in many parts of our region and across the nation,” said Tonko.
