Thank you to all the advocates in the recovery community storming Capitol Hill today to demand lawmakers pass a budget bill that provides funding and care to those living with addiction or mental illness—rather than inflicting cruel cuts that deny support to those in need.

My Republican colleagues want to pat themselves on the back for passing the SUPPORT Act. Yet, at the same time, they are rubber-stamping devastating cuts by this administration to our nation’s addiction and mental health programs. It’s unacceptable and a slap in the face to anyone impacted by the disease of addiction or struggling with mental illness.

At a time when Republicans are working to strip away healthcare from millions with their cruel budget, they are also trying to pass a resolution that gives polluters carte blanche to spew cancer causing toxins into our communities. The one-two punch of this resolution with the budget to strip health care from 13.7 million is unaccountably cruel.

In the House Rules Committee today, I offered two amendments to prevent Republicans' cruel Medicaid cuts from ripping away treatment for those struggling with addiction & to ensure the GOP's war against clean energy does not deny families cost savings on their energy bills.

President Trump’s Fiscal Year 2026 budget request for EPA has been called “problematic,” “an unserious proposal,” and “maybe a bridge too far to be achievable.” These were the reactions of Republican Appropriators last week. During today's Environment Subcommittee hearing, I questioned Administrator Zeldin on these drastic cuts that impede the EPA's ability to protect public health and the environment.

I’ll keep fighting against Republican attempts to gut Medicaid for constituents like Rossiluz—who told me that Medicaid means her “peace of mind” and that, without that vital coverage for her family, “we wouldn’t make it.”

Republicans in the Energy and Commerce Committee voted yesterday to advance a budget that rips healthcare away from Americans. But the fight isn't over yet. I won't stop pushing for my GOP colleagues to reverse course and protect Medicaid for people like Samantha—a constituent of mine who has dealt with debilitating chronic health issues since she was 12.

In defending Medicaid, the stakes couldn’t be higher for kids like Cameron, a 16-month-old pediatric stroke survivor and one of my constituents.

While Republicans work to slash health care for Americans with their budget proposal, I connected with Sara — the mom of Cameron, a 16-month old pediatric stroke survivor — to hear in her words the importance of Medicaid in caring for her son.

The GOP budget that Republicans are pushing through committee is painful to so many in my district and beyond. We must say NO to lining the pockets of billionaires and YES to providing access to affordable healthcare.
