Not one cent to fund ICE
February 3, 2026
I’m voting no to the short-term DHS funding bill this week. ICE has lost all public trust with their brutal, deadly crackdown on our communities. They should be abolished for good, let alone given another dime of taxpayer money.

Kristi Noem needs to go
January 15, 2026
Kristi Noem is making all of us less safe and has completely lost public trust. I've signed onto articles of impeachment to hold her accountable for her actions.

Driving down healthcare costs
January 9, 2026
Last night, the House voted to restore vital Affordable Care Act benefits and help drive down healthcare costs for millions. The Senate must now act to pass this bill and ease the burden of rising costs being felt by so many Americans, including one of my constituents from NY-20, Mekhiya.

Standing up for trans youth & their families
December 18, 2025
Instead of protecting healthcare and extending Affordable Care Act subsidies set to expire, the House is voting today on yet another anti-LGBTQ+ bill that denies trans youth the care they need. I stand with our trans community in rejecting this cruel bill.

Working families need real solutions from Congress on lowering costs
November 21, 2025
Republicans have spent the last decade and a half working to defund and repeal affordable health care, yet in all that time, they’ve never had a solution to replace these programs with something better. That needs to end. The American people deserve action to bring down costs now.

Making sure weatherization works for everyone
November 19, 2025
Today, November 19, 2025, my bill, H.R. 1355, the Weatherization Enhancement and Readiness Act was passed out of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy. This bipartisan bill invests in home weatherization efforts to save low-income families hundreds of dollars on their energy bills while making homes safer, healthier, and more energy efficient. I’ll continue pushing to enact this bill and make certain that weatherization works for all in our communities.

Trump fired nearly every staffer supporting special education at the Dept. of Education
October 23, 2025
A tiny handful of staff are left at the Department of Education's Office of Special Education after Trump fired hundreds of workers—a skeleton crew responsible for $15 billion in funding left to support 7.5 million kids and their families. When we cut education, we deprive an entire generation from the opportunities they deserve. This cannot stand.

Rep. Tonko Virtual Town Hall on Government Shutdown
October 9, 2025
Funding for the federal government has expired. My Democratic colleagues and I spent these past days and weeks working to keep critical services up and running for families and fighting to ensure healthcare benefits for millions of Americans are not eliminated. Sadly, Republicans continued to push a partisan spending bill that exacerbates rising costs for average Americans, takes health care away from individuals and families, and raises premiums for tens of millions. In the midst of this GOP sh...

We're barreling towards a GOP shutdown
September 30, 2025
Republicans have control of the House, Senate, and presidency. They have the power to pass a budget that avoids a shutdown and prioritizes the health and wellbeing of working families. Instead they're missing in action. I'm here in DC to keep up the fight to protect the healthcare benefits Americans need.

Condemning Trump's Shutdown of the 988 LGBTQ+ Crisis Lifeline
July 17, 2025
Stripping away specialized crisis services for LGBTQ+ youth, like the 988 crisis lifeline, is an act of utter cruelty. This was a lifeline for nearly 1.3 million young people, many of whom had nowhere else to turn. We should be expanding these resources, not dismantling them.
