AMSTERDAM, NY—Congressman Paul D. Tonko praised President Biden’s unveiling of his American Jobs Plan in Pittsburgh this afternoon. Biden’s $2 trillion infrastructure package takes urgently needed action to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure including overdue repairs to U.S. roads, bridges and ports, significant upgrades to America’s electric grid and broadband systems, bold support for manufacturing innovation and vast job creation, and much more.

“President Biden laid out a clear and bold vision for America in his speech in Pittsburg today,” said Congressman Tonko, who chairs the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment and Climate Change. “For far too long, our nation’s infrastructure has fallen into disrepair, dragging down our economy and leaving us failing to meet the needs of the American people and struggling to compete with the rest of the world. We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to overcome the darkness of this pandemic and rebuild our nation in ways that make us stronger, safer and more respected—to spark the creation of millions of good jobs while we rebuild our crumbling roads, expand broadband, invest in clean energy and modernize our schools and homes. President Biden’s American Jobs Plan delivers those needed investments that will help us rebuild our economy to be cleaner, more competitive, more resilient and more just. I look forward to working alongside this administration and with my colleagues to strengthen this legislation even further to ignite our recovery and lay a foundation for America’s brightest future.”

The American Jobs Plan invests:

  • $621 billion in transportation infrastructure and resilience, including $115 billion to modernize roads, bridges and highways.
  • $111 billion to modernize America’s drinking water systems and protect our children and families by removing 100 percent of lead pipes.
  • $100 billion to transform the electric grid and support the shift to clean energy.
  • $100 billion to improve and expand high-speed broadband internet across the nation.
  • $213 billion to produce, preserve, and retrofit more than two million affordable and sustainable homes.
  • $100 billion to upgrade and build public schools.
