SARATOGA, NY—Congressman Paul D. Tonko today announced that Ballston Lake is receiving an $5,385,000 investment to implement solar technology as part of a federal rural development loan that will support farmers, ranchers, and small businesses in securing a clean energy future.

Tonko has championed the push for clean energy development, including securing $3 million for the City of Cohoes to install floating solar panels on the Cohoes reservoir, which will serve as a model for communities across the nation striving to implement smart, clean energy systems that drive down consumer costs.

“As we’ve seen with the innovative project in Cohoes, floating solar deployment offers a number of advantages in helping our nation reach its renewable energy goals and reducing power bills for families and communities,” Congressman Tonko said. “I’ve led the charge to deliver federal investments in solar, offshore wind, EVs and more, which will deliver huge dividends through creating good-paying jobs, cutting costs for consumers, and driving American competitiveness and leadership on the global stage. I’m thrilled to announce this innovative project that will boost our regions solar capabilities and support our communities. My thanks to those at Hubbs Road Solar for their bold work to spark the next stage of America’s clean energy revolution.”

Tonko also authored provisions on solar development under H.R. 7776, the Water Resources Development Act, including calling on the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to assess the potential to implement solar and floating solar technology at Corps sites across the nation.

Hubbs Road Solar is being delivered this federal loan through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development program. The investment will fund the installation of a 6.1 MW solar system, which is estimated to produce 7,983,900 kWh per year—enough electricity to power 800 homes.
