WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Paul D. Tonko (D-NY) celebrated the announcement today by offshore wind developers and manufacturers that have submitted bids for New York’s third and most recent offshore wind solicitation. If these proposals are selected, manufacturers will be empowered to create more good paying jobs in the Capital Region, drive key innovations, and help secure New York’s status as a global leader in clean energy innovation.
“With the completion of New York’s third request for offshore wind projects, I am heartened to see that multiple developers include Capital Region manufacturing projects in their proposals that could bring hundreds of good paying, green manufacturing jobs to our region,” Congressman Tonko said. “I have always believed in the potential of our region to play a leading role in offshore wind and clean energy development. If realized, these investments—combined with our state-leading manufacturing workforce—would enable our Capital Region communities to become a hub for the wind industry’s emerging domestic supply chain. I look forward to seeing how the selected projects drive new innovations and benefits for New York, and I will continue my push to secure our clean energy future.”
The proposal deadline to submit proposals to New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is today, January 26 at 3:00PM. Proposers will receive award notifications in the coming weeks and months.
Today’s announcements come just weeks after Tonko unveiled his transformational Offshore Energy Modernization Act, legislation that provides a comprehensive blueprint to ensure the long-term viability and success of U.S. offshore wind development. The sweeping bill implements critical measures and reforms to help responsibly develop offshore wind, protect coastal ecosystems, and enable the industry to meet President Biden’s energy goals for the nation to deploy 30 gigawatts of offshore wind power by 2030.
