WASHINGTON – Congressman Paul D. Tonko slammed the Trump Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today following news that the agency will decline to set national standards for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), two perfluorinated compounds (PFAS) that have been linked to myriad health disorders including cancer.
“If these reports are accurate, the Trump EPA is planning to leave millions of Americans exposed to unnecessary risk of serious and lasting health consequences,” said Tonko. “Failing to establish national drinking water standards for PFOA and PFOS would be a clear betrayal of affected families and communities across the country. EPA cannot continue to ignore the growing mountain of evidence for serious, widespread public health concerns related to PFAS exposure. If the Administration truly refuses to act, Congress will need to step in to deliver the safe drinking water standards the American people need and deserve.”
